Lakes in Bengaluru City

Bengaluru city is known for its Garden and Lakes with nicknamed as "Garden City" or "Lake City".  There are about 190+ lakes across the city and many are tourist attraction places like LalBagh, Ulsoor lake.

However, with the increasing population and city limits, it also seen that Lakes are getting polluted, muddy or dried up.  With many lakes have reached a condition where they cannot be restored and almost dried up.  If we go back in the history and see  these lakes were man-made in order to meet the requirements of agriculture, drinking, irrigation and also were used as Dhobi Ghats.  Now many of the lakes in the city have become pond or polluted or marshy or complete filled with waste.

With "Save Ganga" agitation is on, As Bangaloreans we also need to take steps in order to save the lakes which are on the verge of disappearing or getting completely polluted.  BBMP has been striving hard in order to restore the lakes in Bengaluru city back to its original, however, with demand for infrastructure, industries and development going across the city.  These lakes serve either as dump yard for the industrial waste or infrastructure are developed on a part of the region with encroachment being a part of it.

However, BBMP has started working on restoring some of the lakes in the city and are also planning to develop tree gardens on the lakes which are dried up and also cleaning the marshy, muddy and industrial waste from the lakes.  BBMP is planning to develop some action plan in order to save these lakes.

Find the list of the lakes which are :

1) Dry Lakes in Bangalore

2) Polluted Lakes in Bangalore

3) Filled with waste/ marshy

4) BBMP carrying their work on.

With trees being chopped down and lakes disappearing, it is time to think whether we are ready to face new weather change which has already started making it way in the city.
